Swimming Spirit

On July 31st 2002, a Sherbrooke-based newspaper called the man a weirdo; 53 year-old Raymond-Louis Laquerre had just announced his taking part in the 10 km International Swim across Lake Memphremagog. He intended to use the dolphin stroke which was invented by the Chicoutimi-born swimmer himself. Incidentally, he invented three other strokes namely the torpedo, the eel and the carp, all of them based on careful observation of aquatic life. These inventions transpire from the will to swim in harmony with Nature. He perceives swimming as being a form of massage rather than a form of competitive physical activity.
